Hanging Shower Caddy
Hanging shower caddies are one of the more popular shower caddy designs out there. They consist of a traditional design that hangs over a standard shower hose, pipe, or shower wall. One of the advantages of using a hanging shower caddy is that they are easy to install and remove. They are also optimal in terms of accessibility and allow you to grab your stuff conveniently.
Since they are placed on the shower wall, hanging shower caddies are also very easy to clean, and no flat bases are used to place the caddy. This means that the chances of a mold buildup remain almost zero. The water streams through the many openings, and whatever is left tends to dry off quickly. This prevents the formation of unpleasant listeria, black mold, and mildew.
Hanging shower caddies do have their disadvantages as well. To begin with, if the water pressure in your showerhead is not good enough or the pipe that connects the showerhead is not long enough, even the best shower caddies can cause a deterrence. To remedy this, make sure that you install a high-pressured showerhead or have an efficient plumbing system.
Secondly, some individuals prefer handheld showerheads over regular ones. This means that shower caddies placed under the shower heads may cause an obstruction. For that purpose, we’d specifically suggest caddies designed to be hanged on the shower door.
Corner Shower Caddies
These shower caddies are designed to be placed at the corner of the bathtub. They stand on a tension rod or an aluminum pole and consist of multiple shelves attached to the pole. This allows for greater storage space.
On the downside, tension corner pole caddies are susceptible to rust. Since they are limited only to the corners, the sedentary water present on the ledge is prone to damage the metal composition. This leads to replacements often because the metal gets weaker.
Suction Cup Caddy Shelf
Suction cup caddy shelves offer less area storage-wise. However, if you look at the bright side, they take up less space as well. The compact design also allows them to fit into the smallest of shower stalls. These shower caddies are perfect for single-person uses and can hold two bottles of your shampoo and conditioner.
What many people don’t like about suctions cups, however, is their ability to store water. The natural chlorine and minerals present in the water, along with soap scum, mildew, and mold, may damage the plastic these shower caddies are made of.
These factors can affect the longevity of these suction cup caddy shelves. Even if the manufacturer claims otherwise, it is common that you might need to replace them every year. Also, attaching them to anything other than flat surfaces can be a bit of a challenge.
Over the Door Shower Caddy
These types of shower caddies are placed over shower doors. Since these are placed away from the water, longevity is not a concern with these shower caddies. Also, these shower caddies usually hang on two hooks. This means that even if one side is heavy, the entire thing will not fall down.
For this shower caddy to work, however, you will need a door. This means that for people who bathe in the bathtub, this particular shower caddy simply does not work for you. Also, in a shower combo situation, this caddy might block the curtain from closing completely.
Caddies for Dorms, Hostels, Gyms
These are portable caddies suitable for circumstances where you have to share shower stalls. These caddies are made from mesh and plastic shells which makes them easy to carry.
These caddies are not suited to be used in a home. Since the storage baskets are made of porous material, overexposure to water can lead to the production of bacteria. This bacteria causes irritation and may even infect you if it is exposed to an open razor.
Material plays a huge role in the functionality and the longevity of shower caddies. Each type of material has its own perks and disadvantages. Let’s explore these a bit more.
